New Zealand is trying to patch up its Pacific image by upgrading the country’s shortwave radio service. Radio New Zealand will run the new Pacific service, one the Government admits is long overdue.

Auckland Police have confirmed that fingerprints of a man they're holding match those of an American who apparently drowned in Cook Strait four years ago. The man, Milton Harris, is at the centre of an alleged multi-million dollar life insurance fraud.

“Wall of Death”, or drift net, fishing will be banned by the Government. If boats using the controversial nets are found within New Zealand’s 200 mile zone they’ll be ceased.

A massive earthquake struck south of New Zealand last night. Its force was similar to the 1906 quake which caused widespread damage in San Francisco.

Protests continue in China.
