Jean Batten arrives at Mangere aerodrome, Auckland, on 16 October 1936 after flying from Sydney, alone in a single-engined monoplane. She stands with flowers at the microphone with her father and the Mayor, Ernest Davis. The crowd gives three cheers.

Twenty-eight passengers are on board the giant American flying boat Clipper when it lands in Auckland's harbour after an 8000 mile flight from the United States to New Zealand. The 42 ton ship will make regular Pan American Airways services to the Dominion. Thousands were at the harbour base to welcome the delegation. The New Zealand Post Master General Webb welcomes Captain J.H. Tilton.

AUCKLAND GOING UP! The Mayor of Auckland, Mr J H Luxford and Mrs Luxford are guests of honour at the opening ceremony of the city's first escalators, installed in Farmers department store. The Mayor cuts the ribbon and the official party goes up followed by a crowd of curious Aucklanders, among them Hector the parrot. The eight banks of escalators are the largest installation in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Beatles’ reception on their Auckland visit in 1964. Outside the Town Hall, the crowd erupts as they are received by Mayor Dove-Myer Robinson. The Mayor attempts to quiet the crowd without much success. Haka performed by kapa haka group for the band, group greet band with hongi. Paul McCartney addresses crowd.

The final day of the Springbok Tour sees a light plane flying inside Eden Park dropping flour bombs and leaflets whilst protesters and police clash violently outside the ground. Protesters break into TV relay stations and disrupt broadcast of the match. Protesters attempt to block the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

Their yacht would travel to Mururoa to take part in protests. Natasha explains her mixed feelings of excitement and disappointment just prior to leaving Auckland's wharf. Includes shots of the Rainbow Warrior sunk at Marsden wharf.
