Recent funding cuts for bilingual education resources for Pacific Islanders have angered many in the community, now the Bilingual Leo Pasifika Coalition is lobbying Government for Samoan, Tongan, Tokelauan, Cook Island and Niuean languages to become official minority languages in New Zealand.
