James Siers leads the voyage of a traditionally built outrigger canoe from the Gilbert Islands (Kiribati) to Fiji. The 1500 mile voyage is undertaken by Gilbert Islanders using their traditional navigational skills and Europeans, Peter Barton, David Lewis and John Smith, last Governor of the Gilbert Islands. This programme looks at the customs and life of the Gilbert Islanders and the use of their sea skills to prove that in pre European times they had skills and technology to navigate the Pacific Ocean.
