For Niueans, a special hair cutting ceremony is performed when a young boy becomes a communion member of the church. Preparation begins two years beforehand when he clears his garden of bush, feeds his pigs and saves his money. When all is ready, it is time to cut the boy's hair. This is all part of a ceremony to ensure the child's financial future.
